Artists of all abilities across Cambridgeshire are being invited to submit traditional and contemporary works of art for an exhibition with £1000 worth of prizes on offer.
The Rheebridge Open Art Exhibition sponsored by local property and investment company Rheebridge on a three-year agreement, will take place at the new @theatrium arts venue at Cottenham Sixth Form Centre in November and has been organised by stART, a network of five Arts Development Managers working together to maximise arts opportunities across South Cambridgeshire. There is no selection criteria, but only the first 300 entries can be accepted.
Explains Amy Wormald, Arts Development Manager for Cottenham & Impington area: “For the past 20 years Cottenham Village College have hosted an exhibition open to local artists of all abilities. The exhibition was relaunched in 2011 in the brand new @theatrium, which has allowed us to bring a fresh new look to the exhibition in a smart contemporary exhibition space. Our ambition is to grow the exhibition, attract more artists and visitors and establish it as one of the premier venues in Cambridgeshire for art exhibitions”.
The exhibition also has major sponsorship for the first time: “We are really pleased to be working with Rheebridge, a company whose approach and commitment to social responsibility is in line with our own ethos”, says Amy.
Rheebridge Founder and Managing Director David Rapley was inspired to become involved in the exhibition after attending last year when his wife, Sue, an artist was exhibiting. “I was impressed with the space and with the organisation of the event along with the obvious direction and ambition from Amy and everyone involved to make it even more exciting. The only thing lacking was funding, so we’re therefore delighted to become involved to help them realise this ambition with our sponsorship”.
The exhibition, which takes place from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 November, is open to artists of all levels producing contemporary or traditional paintings, sculptures and prints. Entries are invited from 1 July, with an entry form available at http://attheatrium.org.uk/rheebridge/#more-168. Up to three works can be submitted for a single entry fee of £15 along with up to four unframed works. Deadline for entries is Saturday 10 November.
The works will be available for sale with no commission charged and prizes of £500 for the Best Contemporary Artwork and £500 for the Best Traditional Artwork will be presented by Rheebridge.
ART@theatrium, the volunteer organising committee who support the exhibition, received an award from the South Cambridgeshire Arts Awards in March. The Art Exhibition began life 21 years ago as the Fen Edge Art Exhibition and was originally a space for local residents to share their work, but over the years it has attracted artists and audiences from further afield.
Rheebridge works in the areas of property development, angel investment and social enterprise with an emphasis on providing a bridge between ethical issues and commercial success.
